This week on Dezeen

This week a group of urban climbers revealed that they’d secretly scaled the 309-metre-high exterior of Renzo Piano’s London skyscraper the Shard and J. Mayer H. completed a crooked concrete police station that one reader thought was actually worth getting arrested for. Here at Dezeen we’ve been preparing for our relocation to Milan next week, where we’ll be filming a daily TV show from Dezeen Studio powered by Jambox, filled with news from new design epicentre MOST, interviews with designers and journalists, plus coverage of events elsewhere in the city. We’ve already published a few of our favourite projects that will appear at the fair, which include a table that’s almost invisible and a giant robot.Readers have been praising the ingenuity of a table that provides protection during earthquakes, although a few had concerns over what would happen if the floor collapsed. Others were disappointed by the intentionally missing centrepiece from a pair of glasses made from water buffalo horns.Elsewhere on Dezeen we presented the snapshots from our visit to Iceland last month for DesignMarch, where we used the Marc Newson-designed Pentax K-01 camera to document architecture in Reykjavik as well as a tour of Icelandic designer’s studios. The next compilation of movies from the series Dezeen filmed for the new Design Museum Collection App shows how design has shaped the way we listen to music. Download the app for free[..]
