Student Spotlight: Smithuis Bakery Waste

"For many years, Smithuis bakery waste, such as stale bread and crumbs, were dried and mixed for animal feeding. It is rich in fat and carbohydrate, but the protein quality and the vitamin content are low. As better and more suitable food sources emerged, Smithuis had to find alternatives and decided to do something different: turning waste into something delicious while increasing profits."

Before & After: Caveman Cookies

"Caveman Cookies started out making one flavor of paleo cookies and has since expanded to a full line of fun flavors. We featured the branding and initial packaging for the cookies about 4 years ago. Over time, the application of the top sticker became arduous so Caveman eliminated that.  The application of 2 stickers on the bag also proved too time consuming and a few stores complained that the bags didn't stack well. So, more recently Caveman repurposed the graphics to fit a more standard box."

Eight Arms, The Argonaut

"The Argonaut is an octopus with a shell. As bizarre as that sounds, in 300 B.C., Aristotle proposed that the female Argonaut used her shell as a boat and her eight arms to row it! Have no fear. Enjoying The Argonaut probably won't lead you to proposing any new theories about the natural world, but after a long day, you might still be tempted to contemplate the animal kingdom while savoring this refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, and maybe snacking on a ring, or two, of calamari!"

Motto

"We've been commissioned to create a new brand for a premium coffee and food offering...working with RCG, the brand needed to stand out in a cluttered, petrol station convenience store and also easily transition into a stand alone cafe. Developing a name, brand signature and graphic system was the first step in the process. Then a test site was chosen and the new brand and delivery system was implemented. The result was a gorgeous oasis within a busy store that attracted customers to try the barista style coffee and the fresh ‘made on the premises’ pastries. The brand promise was more than fulfilled and sales increased immediately and since then have remained consistent. The new name motto implies a promise. A great environment, exceptional personal service and consistently ‘good’ coffee and food."
