Sensado Cigar Co.

Designed by redpepper, Sensado Cigar Co. is a high-end, luxury cigar brand for the young adventurer who thrives on travel and honest experiences. "In our research, we discovered that the competitive cigar market is very traditional. We saw an opportunity to take a modern, fresh approach to cigar branding and ran with it. We're introducing Sensado to the world with a 'City Series'—including New York, Roma, Shanghai and Miami. By comparing tobacco and cities, we're allowing the smoker to relate a flavor profile to something already familiar. For example, 'Roma' has flavors of earth and a hint of Italian cappuccino. 'Shanghai' has a spicy start and a sweet finish. This method of organization allows smokers, both novice and experienced, to understand the cigar before they ever smoke it. Visually, we wanted to represent the cities without being too literal. We designed marks that allude back to architecture and motifs related to the specific regions. Then we brought in pops of colors to an overall black and white color scheme, neither of which you'd typically see in a humidor. The labels are printed on foil paper and debossed to give them richness and depth."

Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project

Retail-owned brands have come a long way from the black and white generic labels of the 1970’s. The transition included a lengthy period of knock offs, where retailers introduced “me-too” private labels that closely mimicked the look of the national brands. Now, in his first book, Christopher Durham, Vice President of Retail Brands at Theory House, takes a focused look at private brands that have cracked the code and become true national brands. The book is design in a bonded in white cover with a sophisticated indie feel. Using a selective color to represent this book, the book includes expanded brand strategy and learnings from the 52 brands, as well as more than 200+ new photographs from the award winning photographer, Teri Campbell. The premise of the book was to combat the erroneous perception that private brands in the United States are just a value play wrapped in bad design. With Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project, Durham sets out to prove that perception wrong. Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project is based on Durham’s yearlong blog project of the same name on his industry website, My Private Brand.  “One of the things I love about this project is that when I found the best brands, they weren’t all from big retailers with big budgets. Some of the brands, like Bi-Rite, are local surprises that truly deserve the honor.” - Christopher Durham, Vice President of Retail Brands at Theory House

Waitrose Pure

Waitrose has been working with brand consultancy DewGibbons + Partners on a packaging redesign of ‘Pure’, its own label beauty range. The Waitrose Pure skincare range has been in-store for a number of years – it required redevelopment for better standout on shelf. Plus there was a need to more clearly position the nine-strong range as ‘natural skincare’, due to a reappraisal and reformulation of all products, which are now suitable for all skin types, dermatologically approved, and contain 95%+ naturally derived ingredients. To ensure Pure is displayed with pride on shelf and in bathrooms, DewGibbons + Partners’ design solution acknowledges contemporary trends in interior design. The agency collaborated with renowned fabric and wallpaper designer Sabine Reinhart to create a flora inspired background pattern that subtly decorates each of the packs. The logotype and typography are a simple and purposely understated foil to the richness of the illustration. A seal endorsing the products’ purity underpins the brand’s natural claims. DewGibbons also sourced new pack structures that provide a united feel to the range.

Birds & Bees

High-end bird food brand Birds & Bees has partnered with design agency B&B Studio. The award winning design agency has created the brand’s identity, packaging, website and print communications.  “The identity's vibrant and dynamic look and feel reflects the brand’s broader mission to support local wildlife and help bring Britain’s gardens to life. In addition, the colour-coded packaging brings clarity and ease of navigation to what can be a complex category to shop.”  - Shaun Bowen, B&B Creative Partner This positive outlook on Britain’s wildlife has helped shape and define the visual language of the brand, which spans across packaging, website and print communication. Silhouettes of garden birds and insects are used to suggest a proliferation of wildlife, all rendered in a stamp effect for a raw and natural feel, while the logo itself balances authoritative and friendly typography and a bee icon appears to draw out the word and act as a sign-off.
