Sex Sells, 50 Creative Sexual Advertisements to Prove it

Here is the cold hard truth, Sex Sells. Hate or love it, sex attracts the eye more than any other type of advertisement. Festival of Ideas for the New City Ticket Giveaway!

Four weeks ago, we were pleased to announce the New Museum's "Festival of Ideas for the New City." With the multifaceted event just a week away, we've got our hands on an all-access pass to the festival—including the buzzworthy Rem Koolhaas keynote next Wednesday, May 4th—for one of our lucky readers in New York City. All you have to do to enter is tweet your favorite piece of design in the five boroughs—something that defines the city for you—to @core77 AND @IdeasNYC. Sure, it's easy to love the terraced crown atop the Chrysler Building or the iconic arches of the Brooklyn Bridge, but we're really looking for someone with a designer's—if not necessarily a true New Yorker's—appreciation for the city. Some personal picks include the fire escapes in Chinatown and the doors to the vault of One Hanson Place (home to Brooklyn Flea in the winter). Or maybe it's something less concrete, like the MTA's ubiquitous use of Helvetica or 311 as an example of service design. So let's hear it, NYC design enthusiasts: what makes the city special for you? Respond (via Twitter) to @Core77 and @IdeasNYC by midnight tomorrow, Thursday, April 28, and we'll pick a winner on Friday.(more...)

L’Apple Store version Playmobil

Cet Apple Store en version Playmobil est bien sûr une blague de la part de Thinkgeek, mais je pense que certain fans de la marque à la pomme seraient content de l’acheter si jamais ce gadget devenait réalité un jour (ce qui est fort peu probable…)

Common elements used in interface button design

Buttons and navigational elements are quite possibly the most commonly used interface objects in both desktop and mobile design. They pull an interface together, allowing users to get from A to B in a single click. Most importantly, a button has to look good. It has to scream “Click me!,” or else it simply won’t [...]

INTERMISSION: Suit Up

INTERMISSION is a series of 1 minute motion stills captured on various location scouting missions in Downtown LA. They each consist of a single shot with a single subject highlighted for it’s cinematic beauty. So often shots like these collect dust sitting on a hard drive because they are not tied to a specific project. [...]

The Illustrations of Stuart Kerr

I recently stumbled across the wonderful Flickr page of Stuart Kerr, a Scotland-based exhibit designer and illustrator. Kerr runs his own firm, Stuco, but puzzlingly the Stuco website names a Glasgow street address while Kerr's blog entries refer to an Edinburgh base. His client base is split between the UK and Japan.(more...)
