"Is War a Game?" - a short video made by 16 year old Michael Rees

We’ve shown you Michael Rees’ work before (here and here) – so why am I showing you his new film “Is War a Game?” Because Michael is only 16 that’s why! It is incredible that this young man is able to explore the new world of cinematography because this very inexpensive HDSLR is within the reach of so many more people now.We love to know more about what people are doing with their HDSLRs and Michael is sure putting his knowledge to good use. I wish I could make a short like this!   Of course, you can find out much more about moving from photography to making movies on my blog at planet5D.planetMitch

Monkey uses a Canon EOS 5D Mark II for some self portraits

In the ‘I’d love to see the whole set’ department we report on this interesting story of a crested black macaque (a type of monkey) that borrowed a Canon EOS 5D Mark II (reviews) for a while to take some self-portraits as well as other photos of it’s friends. Maybe we’ve stumbled on a new technique to learn about these creatures? Let them borrow other HDSLRs and turn on the video! HAAward-winning photographer David Slater said: “He must have taken hundreds of pictures by the time I got my camera back, but not very many were in focus. He obviously hadn’t worked that out yet."One of them must have accidentally knocked the camera and set it off because the sound caused a bit of a frenzy.“At first there was a lot of grimacing with their teeth showing because it was probably the first time they had ever seen a reflection.“They were quite mischievous jumping all over my equipment, and it looked like they were already posing for the camera when one hit the button” (see more of the story on telegraph.co.uk)
